holds first For more than two years printers in North India have come forward to meet and participate in building a serious technical organisation for developing standards and for technology absorption. On May 16, 2003, IppStar Pvt. Ltd. the graphic arts organisation incorporated in October 2001, and which is trying to locally emulate organisations such as GATF, PIRA, FOGRA and IFRA, held its first core guidance group meeting in an effort to report to and consult with members and supporters on its work over the last year and to establish a consensus for this year's plan.
Sangeeta Aggarwal of Prastut, IppStar's market research consultant presented
the methodology for data gathering and analysis for the Star Industry
Survey that has conducted over 1800 interviews of manufacturers, printers,
and converters since August 2002. The complex exercise will be able to
show both growth models for individual sectors and technology segments
as well as links to national and industry economic data. In the discussion
it was explained how the research can be linked to core industry input
sectors such as substrates, inks, and other materials. The participants agreed that the survey should continue to seek sponsors from prepress and packaging equipment manufacturers and from processing sectors such as commercial printing and paperboard and flexible packaging. Apart from financial support, sponsors are seen as drivers and monitors of the survey. The current sponsors of the Star Industry Survey include IPAMA, NPES, Heidelberg India, Manugraph, and Kodak Polychrome Graphics. The last phase of more than 700 interviews of leading suppliers, printers, converters, and end users is planned for completion in the next three months. Members encouraged maximum speed in the execution of this complex task so that IppStar could devote increased energies to its training, consulting, and colour management assignments and requests. The core guidance group meeting was attended by seven IPP and IppStar members and 29 participants including representatives of 5 of the six IppStar members and several other important organisations and local printers such as ITC P&SPD, DuPont, SICPA, Canon, Kodak Polychrome Graphics, Multitec Aids, Flexo India Graphics, DX Technologies, India Offset, Rakesh Press, Everest Press, Lustra Print, PS Press Services, Indian Express, and Thomson Press.
